Its purpose is to teach merfolk who want to live on land the basics about human traditions, behaviour and natural phenomenons that don't exist underwater. Merfolk who enroll spend a month living at the school and get courses from morning to night.

The school was founded a long time ago by a mermaid princess who faced issues when she first went on land. Her intention with the boot camp was to share and teach land knowledge to future generations of merfolk.

Azul, Jade and Floyd have attended this school sometime prior to their enrollment at Night Raven College. Floyd mentions that while these courses are more common than before, they're still considered rare as the boot camp gets only a few sign-ups.[24]

Ancient City

Most of the island residents don’t live in Ancient City at the seabed level of the Island of Woe. Instead, people tend to live in the residential block of Oceanus, which is the outer wall which covers the island.
The giant pillar in the middle of the city connects to Oceanus Gate, the entrance at the surface of the water, and ends in Tartarus at the other end. S.T.Y.X (or Styx) is in control of the exits and entrances of the Oceanus Gate.
According to Ortho, there are many dangerous areas on the island. [26]

For its community Styx strives to emulate life on land using advanced technologies such as creating an artificial sky or seasons, climate, rivers and forests. This is because natural light provides mental and physical benefits to humans. In addition, there are insects, but of a different kind than those you would see in the outside world.
The city has its own means of transportation such as maglev trains, elevators, flying machines and Styx-made technomantic flying vehicles called Chariots are used for transportation.

The architecture of the Ancient City is a remainder of the Island of Woe’s olden days as part of the Kingdom of Heroes and is a community surrounding Styx's headquarters, which is located at the center. The buildings are relics there have been well-preserved.
