Trivia

  • For the English release, Sam's appearance was slightly altered from his original look in the Japanese version:
    • Sam has white skeletal markings painted beneath his eyes, on his neck, on his chest, and on his forearms.
    • There are also white rib markings on the bright purple vest.
    • On the side of his blazer, Sam wears a pin resembling the talisman Dr. Facilier uses to transform Prince Naveen into a frog.
  • Sam is inspired by Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog.[1]
    • He is named after Baron Samedi, a spirit of Haitian Vodou that Facilier himself was based on.
    • He may also be based on Trader Sam, a character of the Jungle Cruise attraction known as the "Head Salesman of the Jungle". He is vaguely associated with voodoo, as his costume includes shrunken heads, and tiki bars have been opened with the concept of him applying his experience mixing potions to mixing drinks.
  • According to Crewel he is an excellent pianist.
  • Trein often asks him for recommendations for cat toys for Lucius.
