Happy Birthday! (Part One)

Savanaclaw Dorm - Lounge

Gah, I need an interview like I need a knot in my tail. Can't believe they do this every year.
Who am I gonna get stuck with this time?
  • footsteps*
???
Ready or not, here I come!
  • door opens*

Happy birthday, Leona!

Tsk. This bozo. Just my luck.

Was that tongue click for ME?! Lighten up, it's your birthday!
And Cay-Cay's here to learn what makes you tick!

You're eager, I'll give you that. You better show me a good time today.

Yeesh, no pressure or anything... Anyway, let's ease into things with the first question.
If you could use flight magic to go anywhere, where would you wanna go?
Oh, and don't worry about magic capacity.

Anywhere, huh? Guess I'd fly to a first-class hotel and really take a load off.

Ooh, so like a resort? Bet you get all sorts of awesome snaps for the 'cam at a place like that.

I'm thinkin' of someplace quiet, not an influencer hotspot.
Someplace remote that's hard to get to without flyin'. Type of place most folks never think to go.

Really? But you'd miss out on all the kitschy touristy stuff and fun activities.

Said I wanna take it easy, didn't I? Stuffin' my schedule with sightseeing's the opposite of a good time in my book.

Meaning...you don't want to do anything at all?

Yup. The height of luxury, ain't it?
Eat when I'm hungry, take a bath whenever I feel like it...
Surround myself with peace and quiet. With no one botherin' me for stuff, I could finally get some decent sleep.

Huh, well I GUESS I can see the appeal of a place like that.

Knew you'd come around. Listen, I'm in charge of a dorm AND a club. People are always botherin' me with their "problems."
So it's important I take some time to rest up, body and mind.

Hah, I bet it'd rub a lot of people the wrong way to haer you say that...but I can't say I don't know what you mean.
Welp, that one's asked and answered! On to the next question!

Happy Birthday! (Part Two)

Okay, next question!
What's your best subject in school?
Ooh, I can't WAIT to hear this!

...Why?

Because you're so smart, Leona. I can imagine you being good at anything, so I'm super curious what's gonna come out on top!

Huh, guess I'll take that as a compliment.

What else would it be? I'm pretty useless at almost everything, so, I'm totes jelly. What's your secret?

I had my own private tutors from an early age, with a curriculum way more advanced than I'd have had in school.

Right... So?

So, all the stuff they teach here? I already learned it, long before i ever enrolled.
I don't know what I know 'cause I'm always hittin' the books like your housewarden. I just already know it.

Huh, okay. No wonder it always seems so effortless for you.
Well, let me tweak the question a little. What's your FAVORITE subject?

If I gotta pick one, I'd go with ancient incantations. It doesn't bore me like all the other ones.

That's mostly about deciphering ancient languages no one uses anymore, right?
And there's still tons of languages no one's managed to crack yet, too.

A lot of them were created to conceal magical rites, so they're over-complicated on purpose.
Even experts in the field have their work cut out for 'em.
Making out individual characters is hard enough, let alone grasping the meaning of whole words or enough grammar to understand sentences.
You just gotta keep inching forward, analyzing what's there and comparing it to what's already been deciphered, looking for similarities.

I can't imagine doing anything like that. Half the stuff that's already deciphered in our textbooks goes way over my head.
Any tips on how to get better?

Dunno. I just always liked doin' that sorta thing. Ever since I came across this one inscription back in Sunset Savanna.
A really long string of words etched in an ancient tongue...
First time I saw it, I had no idea what it meant, but I decided to try and figure it out just to pass the time.

And? What was it? Royal secrets?!

It was just about the history of my homeland. The same stuff you'd find in any textbook.

Aw, man, that's all? Anti-climactic much?

The words themselves may not have been anything special in the end, but puzzling out what they said was more fun than I'd had in a long time.

Happy Birthday! (Part Three)

Savanaclaw Dorm - Lounge

Last question! Here we go!
What do you hope to do in the next year?

Avoid gettin' held back. The end.

...Th-that's all?!

What could be more important than that?

Not a lot, I guess. But there must be something else you wanna do!
Like, getting 1,000 followers on Magicam? Or maybe winning a spelldrive tournament?

Okay, sounds good. Let's go with that.

Uh, which one?

The tournament one.
Level up the spelldrive team and win the national championship. That aspirational enough for ya?

I mean, it's supposed to be what YOU want... But at least I got an answer.
All right then, Mr. Spelldrive Captain, here's a question: how do you train the underclassmen on the team?

Lemme give you an example...
I had this one guy who was takin' plays off to save his strength durin' matches. Didn't have enough stamina.
Now that's the kinda thing that can cost you in a big game. I needed to build up his endurance.
So durin' practice, I'd throw him these real long passes that had him flyin' sideline to sideline, back and forth.

Whoa, that sounds tough! If that's how you run your practices, you must have a lot of kids quit on you...

Yeah, that's by design.

Really?

If they get broken down that easy, they got no place in my club.
I need players who hate to lose, who'll do whatever it takes.
If they ain't down with that, then they can hit the bricks.
You only make the lineup on my team by crawlin' your way through a world of hurt.

W-wow. Spoken like a true captain!
Sounds like you go above and beyond to make sure everyone on the team gest what they need to succeed. You really care about them, don't you?

Yeah, no.
I'm just doin' the bare minimum I gotta do as their leader.
Last thing I need is some useless whelps costin' me a victory.

And that concludes the interview! Which means... Dun da-da dun! It's time to take this broom and go on your birthday flight.

What a gaudy broom.

It stands out, to be sure, but it's still dignified. Just like you, Leona!
And now it's your time to shine! Don't worry, I'll take lots of pics!

Don't you dare. I'm not really lookin' to put on a show.

  • footsteps*

Ah, it's finally quiet again. Time for a nice little stroll across the sky.
