Oh, thank you. I'm glad to be here, but I confess it's a bit strange as well. Most of the time when there's a party, I'm usually the one doing the cooking, the decorating, the inviting... Being the guest of honor's an adjustment for me.
I saw that Kalim and the others were scrambling to get everything ready, and like a fool, I just had to say something. Which inevitably led to me setting up my own party.
You feel okay about spending your birthday that way?
A parrot. It's said that the Sorcerer of the Sands kept one as his right-hand bird. Kalim brought up getting one for the dorm before, so I did a lot of research into taking care of parrots. I've been thinking about it ever since. I vetoed the idea because a dorm isn't a good place to raise a parrot, but I might get one once I graduate. The parrot that assisted the Sorcerer of the Sands possessed human-level intelligence and could converse fluently.
I was curious to see what talking with a parrot is actually like, so I looked up some videos people posted on Magicam. Unsurprisingly, there weren't any parrots that spoke like a person. I imagine the Sorcerer of the Sands taught his parrot to speak using some special method he devised. The field of animal linguistics wasn't nearly as advanced back then, so it couldn't have been an easy feat.
If you had a parrot, what's the first word you'd teach it?
With magic, it barely takes me five minutes. But it used to take a lot longer when I was still figuring things out. Half an hour, even up to two hours sometimes.
It takes a lot of finesse to do intricate braiding with magic. But I just viewed it as magical training and kept at it every day. Now, I've mastered it to the point that I can change up the type of braid whenever the mood strikes me.
Do you buy your own hair accessories, or do other people give them to you?
A little of column A, a little of column B. On the whole, though, most of what I wear, I've picked myself. I bought the ones I've been wearing lately. They're bells. If you listen closely enough… There, you hear it? A little jingle. You can find all sorts of bracelets and anklets with bells in the Scalding Sands, but hair accessories? Not so much. After all, you'll hear constant jingling if you toss your head around too much. You have to be careful with how you carry yourself.
I can tell you put a lot of effort into your appearance.
