Ramshackle[]
MC[]
Grim and MC met when MC first arrived in Twisted Wonderland. Grim attempted to steal their school uniform, and while chasing them, was mistaken for their familiar by the the Headmage.[1] The two share a student number and are the only residents in Ramshackle dorm, aside from the ghosts.
Initially, Grim doesn't seem to have any attachment towards MC, often coming across as selfish and purposely irritating. The two do nearly everything together, as Grim is meant to be MC's responsibility. This often means that MC gets in trouble a lot alongside Grim as a result of Grim's antics.
As the story goes on, he gradually grows attached to MC and they become genuine friends. Grim will occasionally mention how the two of them need to stick together, or stay together "forever."[2] When their friend group starts to investigate a potential way for MC to get back to their own world, Grim is devastated at the thought of being alone in the dorm without them.[3]
Grim considers himself both MC's pet and master.
Heartslabyul[]
Riddle Rosehearts[]
Grim and Riddle first met after the orientation, when the Headmage brought MC and Grim to the Dark Mirror and Grim set the room on fire trying to demonstrate his magic.[4] Azul asked Riddle to help him catch Grim, and Riddle complied, ready to punish Grim for breaking rule 23.
Riddle initially acts quite smug towards Grim, mostly in response to Grim's ego and Riddle's ability to easily outmatch Grim in a fight.[4]
Ace Trappola[]
Grim and Ace first met when Grim and MC were assigned to clean up the main street. Grim and Ace bicker a lot through the story, but it is usually friendly or unserious. In Spectral Soiree is the only person who is worried about (or remembers) the Prefect and Grim and, despite the state of emergency, he runs to look for them.
Ace, like several other characters, enjoys teasing or pranking Grim, viewing him as an easy target and enjoying getting him riled up. During the first Founding Day celebration, Grim complains to MC about Ace pranking him by tickling him with wind magic, causing Grim to fall off his broom during flight class.[5]
Deuce Spade[]
Grim first met Deuce at the same time as Ace. Grim bickers less with Deuce than Ace overall, mostly because Deuce picks on Grim much less. Grim still finds reasons to complain about Deuce, however, mostly relating to Deuce being simple-minded or getting into trouble; however, these are often in instances where Grim is acting the same way or having the same problems as Deuce. Grim claims that Deuce is just as bad as Ace, but he and Grim are still on friendly terms nonetheless.
Trey Clover[]
Grim has a mostly positive opinion of Trey due to Trey's kindness towards him, receiving sweets and other gifts from him. Trey is also one of few characters who has received a gift of sorts from Grim; when Trey was injured during the events of Book 2, Grim brought him a can of tuna as a get well present. Like with all other students, however, Grim is also subjected to Trey's dental hygiene habits, scratching Trey when he tries to give Grim a toy to clean his teeth. [6]
Savanaclaw[]
Leona Kingscholar[]
Grim is shown to be intimidated by Leona, but this doesn't stop him from insulting him to his face. [2] On the other hand, Leona's indifferent and standoffish attitude also applies to Grim, seeing him as a nuisance due to Grim's troublesome antics interrupting his naps. He often refers to Grim as "furball" rather than his name. Nevertheless, Leona seems to care for Grim to a degree, but denies it.
Jack Howl[]
Grim and Jack do not have a necessarily bad relationship, despite the two having very different personalities and work ethics. Jack also sits in front of Grim in their History of Magic class.[5] Like with everyone else Grim knows, he complains about Jack from time to time.
Ruggie Bucchi[]
Grim and Ruggie have a relatively neutral relationship overall. The two are not in the same friend circle, year, dorm, or clubs, so most of their interactions are a result of school events or issues pertaining to Savanaclaw and its dorm members.
Grim can be a little scared of Ruggie from time to time. Grim also looks up to how greedy Ruggie can be, not viewing it as a negative quality in Ruggie overall.[2]
Octavinelle[]
Azul Ashengrotto[]
Grim and Azul first met after the orientation, when the Headmage brought MC and Grim to the Dark Mirror and Grim set the room on fire trying to demonstrate his magic.[4] Azul asked Riddle to help him catch Grim, trying to win favour with the Headmage, and the two of them chased after and captured Grim.
They meet again during the events of Book 3, where Grim along with many other students (including Deuce and Ace) make a pact to get good grades on exam rankings. Failing to fulfill the pact, Grim is forced to become one of Azul's servant-anenomes until he graduates.
In the end it is only with the help of MC, Leona and Ruggie that he manages to be released from the pact but with serious repercussions for Azul. Later Grim is shown to be reluctant to interact with Azul and the Leech twins, even though he's shown to fall back on his deceptions. In Book 4 he goes so far as to call him “real dastardly” to his face.
Jade Leech[]
Grim and Jade do not spend much time together. Grim is aware of Jade's dangerous side and suspicious intentions, and is often frightened by him.
Floyd Leech[]
Floyd, like Jade, does not spend much time with Grim. Grim can get annoyed with Floyd's constantly changing moods and ideas.
Scarabia[]
Kalim Al-Asim[]
Grim and Kalim first met after the orientation, when the Headmage brought MC and Grim to the Dark Mirror and Grim set the room, and Kalim as a result, on fire trying to demonstrate his magic.[4]
Grim is initially taken aback by Kalim's kind personality, and finds his "mood swings" through Book 4 suspicious.
The two do not have any bad blood between them, although Grim can get annoyed with Kalim's blatant disregard for other people's opinions and personal space.[2]
Jamil Viper[]
Grim and Jamil have a neutral relationship, at least after the events and resolution of Book 4. The two are not in the same friend circle, year, dorm, or clubs, but they still interact a decent amount as a result of Kalim spending time with Grim and MC.
Despite Jamil teasing Grim whenever he can, Jamil will still occasionally do something nice for Grim, although Jamil plays off these kind gestures off like he always does. On the second Founding Day, Jamil brought a bunch of treats over to Ramshackle dorm just for Grim and MC, after spending the day helping them decorate their dorm.[2]
Pomefiore[]
Vil Schoenheit[]
Grim and Vil first met after the orientation, when the Headmage brought MC and Grim to the Dark Mirror and Grim set the room on fire trying to demonstrate his magic. Vil half-heartedly tried to get Leona to help the others capture Grim, but made no move himself to help.[4]
They meet again later in the story, when Grim decides to attend the SDC audition along with Deuce and Ace. Although he was not selected, to his enormous frustration, Vil, Rook and the team chosen to audition will remain in the Ramshackle Dorm with MC as the group's manager (assigned by Crowley).
He will later be involved in the boy's Overblot and in Book 6 he is, together with him, one of the people kidnapped by S.T.Y.X.
Rook Hunt[]
Although they don't meet face to face, Grim has known him since Book 2 and isn't particularly impressed with him in this brief meeting. He's one of the subjects who, together with other characters, was (is) involved in Rook's stalking to his chagrin and fear. Although he finds it strange, however, he considers Idia in a worse light.
Epel Felmier[]
Grim and Epel have a good relationship, and Grim tends to get along with Epel better than he does with many of the other first year students. Epel has a number of qualities that Grim actually likes[5], and the two of them are always shown to be on good terms with each other.
Ignihyde[]
Idia Shroud[]
Grim is not a fan of Idia, however, Idia seems very attached to him. He comes to define Grim as “fuzzy companionship and valuable emotional support” and offers to let him sit on his lap during Glorious Masquerade.
Grim detests Idia's presence so much that, in a voice line, he goes so far as to stick to Cater to avoid a confrontation with him, discovering that it works perfectly. [7]
Ortho Shroud[]
Grim rarely interacts with Ortho, however, he has a very positive view of him. In Wish Upon a Star, Grim mentions that he has a hard time believing Ortho is related to Idia because he is "so nice and wholesome". [8]
Diasomnia[]
Malleus Draconia[]
Grim is one of the few characters who does not show particular fear towards Malleus. Perhaps for this reason the Fae considers it rather interesting. Grim's the one who suggested the nickname Horntorn (角太郎, Tsunotaro) for Malleus to MC.
Contrary to his opinion of Malleus, Grim considers Malleus' mother, Maleanor, a frightening woman.[9]
Silver[]
Silver and Grim have a relatively neutral relationship. The two do not see each other much on a regular basis, as they are not in the same year, dorm, or clubs. Grim considers Silver to be an alright guy, although quiet and difficult to read.[2] The two never really butt heads, mostly due to Silver's mild temper and not being as big of a personality as many of the people Grim gets into arguments with.
Sebek Zigvolt[]
Grim and Sebek do not typically get along. The two have very opposing personalities and ideals, and they both constantly get on each other's nerves. While some people may brush off Grim's antics and selfishness, Sebek does not, often calling Grim out for his behaviour and getting enraged by him.[5]
Night Raven College Staff[]
Dire Crowley[]
Like most students, Grim doesn't like the Headmage. However, he has a tendency to be corrupted very easily by his tricks.
According to Crowley, Grim's enthusiasm for magic is commendable, but if only he behaved better or dedicated himself to studying a little more he would consider him one of his best students. [10] He is shown to have high expectations towards MC and Grim, although it has not yet been explained why.
In Book 6, Grim was the subject of an unusual amount of interest on his part, when he and the group of other students return from the Island of Woe after their capture and experimentation on the blot. The reason behind this interest is unknown.
Divus Crewel[]
Grim is not particularly enthusiastic about Crewel's personality nor too interested in studying his teaching subjects, as a result, he is often scolded when he messes up or gets distracted.
Mozus Trein[]
He finds Trein's lessons terribly boring, as well as considering Lucius, his familiar, a huge nuisance.
Ashton Vargas[]
Grim doesn't like Vargas's eccentric and energetic personality too much. He thinks Grim should join the Speedrive Club, praising his agility.
