You Know... (Part One)

Clock Town - Deuce's Home

I can't believe you have such a well-equipped workshop right next to your place, Deuce Spade!
I'll definitely be able to make my own White Rabbit costume here.

Kinda surprising you actually want to dress up.
Hopefully they'll lend us a 3D printer and the necessary parts...
Guess we won't know until we ask. I think this is the intercom...
Workshop Owner
Yes, how may I help you?

Hi, uh, this is Deuce Spade from next door...
Workshop Owner
Wait...Deuce? Is it really you?!

Yeah. Uh, long time no see.
Sorry to drop in like this, but we were hoping to use the workshop.
We'll pay, of course...
Workshop Owner
You what?
Listen pal, you gotta whole lotta nerve comin' over here!

Wh-why is he so angry all of a sudden...?
Workshop Owner
I remember you! Always runnin' around at night with those other punks, causin' trouble!
You know how much grief you've caused the people of this town? You have any idea?
I don't care how many times your poor mother apologized for ya, I ain't helpin' ya! Get out!

Wait—I'm sorry! For everything!
I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm just trying to help my classmate get his rabbit costume sorted!
Workshop Owner
Uh-huh, sure. You realize this is a workshop and not a fabric store, right?

Allow me to explain. I'm Ortho Shroud, a humanoid. Pleased to meet you.
Deuce and I go to school together over at Night Raven College.
Workshop Owner
A humanoid?

That's right! I need a costume so I can participate in White Rabbit Fest.
But I can't wear clothes like a normal human. I need to make my own special gear.
Workshop Owner
You know, I've seen a ton of robots in my day, but none that could talk so naturally like you!
And you're here in Clock Town for the White Rabbit Fest, you say? Warms my heart...
But I can't risk havin' Deuce mess up my workshop! The answer is NO!!

But Deuce Spade would never!

Ortho...

Do you really think Deuce is just acting polite in order to make you drop your guard?
I promise, Deuce is not smart enough to think of a plan like that, let alone pull it off!
Workshop Owner
...Now that you mention it, he never was much for schemes. Just caused a ruckus.
So you're really just here to use the workshop? You'll be good?

Yes! We'll be on our best behavior! Please let us use your workshop!
Workshop Owner
Far be it from me to disappoint a humanoid kid. You can use my workshop just this once.
Thank you so much!
Workshop Owner
But let's keep one thing straight! This don't mean I trust ya, Deuce!
You damage anything in here and you'll be answerin' to me!

Yes, sir.
Workshop Owner
Hmph. You know, if anyone finds out I let you work in here, it's gonna damage my rep.
I don't need any money from ya. Just make what you need and skedaddle.
Also, come in through the back way. You know where it is, right?

...Deuce Spade, are you all right? You seem upset, and if I am able to perceive that, you must be in true distress.

Just kinda...hating myself.
After I enrolled in Night Raven College, I decided to try and be an honor student. Devoted myself to my studies and my club.
I feel like I've changed a lot, but that doesn't erase everything I did in the past.

Meaning all the running around at night and causing trouble? That sort of thing?

Ugh, yeah... But please forget about that! And please don't mention it to the others.
I don't want to worry my mom either...

Okay, understood. I won't tell a soul.
As long as you help me with my gear.

Of course. That's why I'm here.
Though I gotta say, Ortho, I'm impressed how you managed to talk the owner down.
He was so mad. I thought for sure we'd have to go somewhere else.

Considering he works on blastcycles, I imagined he must be interested in all manner of machines, including robots.
So I played up the humanoid angle, suspecting he was bound to be curious.

Now that you mention it, his demeanor totally changed as soon as he heard that.
...Must be nice, being able to think ahead like that. Wish I could.
We wouldn't be in this mess if I'd been able to think ahead back in middle school.

Oh, Deuce Spade...
You'll have plenty of time to think about that later! We need to build this gear and get back to the others!

You're right. In fact, we'd better hurry in before the owner changes his mind!

You Know... (Part Two)

Clock Town - Clocktower Square

Hm... I sent [MC] a text with when and where to meet, but it's still unread.

It's probably hard to check your phone when you're trying to keep up with Grim running all over the place...

Then we'll just have to find them. They can't have gone too far...
*munch* *munch* *chomp!* Mrah, now THAT is some tasty grub!

That was definitely Grim's voice. Phew—I was afraid we'd have to search the entire park.

Good thing he's so noisy.
Hey! [MC], Grim!

Huh? Oh, Deuce. Real nice of ya to come lookin' for us.

We wouldn't have had to if you hadn't run off. But we all decided we could use some free time.
We're going to meet by that stall we were just at in an hour. Make sure you're not late.
Can you show us around?Let's walk around together!

Uh, not sure I'd make a very good guide. But we can walk around together if you want.

Um, sure!

Mm, that hit the spot!

Looks like Grim is done eating. Let's move on.
What're you feeling, [MC]?
I want to shop for souvenirs!I'd like to walk off all that food.

I think there were some stalls selling knick-knacks and stuff. We could check one of those out?

There were some game stalls back there. Maybe we could play something?

Sounds like fun. I'd love to come with!

The more the merrier!
All these stalls means there's plenty for us to explore together.

Myahaha! That was even better than the magic tricks Ace has up his sleeve!

Glad you're so entertained by these street performers. Looks like they're still going, but I think we should probably move on.

Aw, c'mon, I wanna see more.

Me too. I don't get many opportunities to see street performers.

Yeah? All right. Me and [MC]'ll go on ahead.
But the two of you better remember to get to the meeting spot on time.
Gotcha! / Understood!

Come on. Let's see what's over there.
Passerby A
Ooh, what lovely costumes. Are you two from around here?

Well, I am.
I came back for White Rabbit Fest with some of my classmates from school.
Passerby A
Oh, good. If this is your hometown, then I don't need to warn you.

Warn me about what? Did something happen?
Passerby A
You might say that...
Passerby B
You're from here and you don't know? This place has always been lousy with ne'er-do-wells.
Passerby A
But the worst was this hooligan from around three, maybe four years ago now.

What're you talking about?
Passerby B
Well, it's no surprise you haven't heard. You look like good kids. I bet you'd never get mixed up with HIS sort.
He had these awful frosted tips, and a real mean look about him. He was always tearing about on his blastcycle.
Passerby A
And when he got into fights, he'd summon a cauldron and flatten his enemies! Gives me chills just thinking about it.

Hrk!
Passerby B
Haven't heard much about him lately... But I'm sure he's just as awful as ever, wherever he is.
Passerby A
I remember things were so bad, one of the cops kept an eye out for him-even on days off!
Point is, you don't want to get tangled up with someone like that. So just be careful out there.

R-right. Thanks for your concern.
*sigh* Phew, they're gone. Thought they'd never leave.
About what they said...Wait a minute...

Ugh, I was hoping we could drop it...
Fine... I guess I can tell you, [MC].
Those women just now... The truth is, they were talking about me.
It's been a while since I left for Night Raven College, but I guess people still talk about me.
And still think I'm "just as awful as ever"......
Don't let it get to you.Rebuilding trust takes time.

Trying to cheer me up? Thanks, [MC].

You're right.

...You know, I had a similar experience when I went to the workshop with Ortho earlier.
Even people who knew me back then seem to think I haven't changed.
...At least my family always believed in me. And at least one other person, too.
Remember the cop those women mentioned? The one who was always keeping an eye out for me?
They were posted at the station just across from the park. They really seemed to care about me.
Are they still at that station?Let's go show them how much you're changed over the years!

No, that's the thing—they got transferred to another town a while ago. Made quite the name for themselves, from the sound of it.

You have no idea how much I wish I could...
But that's the thing—they got transferred to another town a while ago. Made quite the name for themselves, from the sound of it.

I should have seen them off when they got transferred, but at the time I was too stubborn.
I swore I'd turn my life around and show them how much I'd improved when I saw them again.
Things don't always work out the way you want, though, do they?

Like today. I wanted to show you all around my hometown.
But it turns out I don't know anything about the place. Some tour guide...
I never even thought to find out more about my hometown until Epel chided me about it.
Maybe I haven't really changed all that much after all.
That's not true...(I'm not sure what to say...)

Sorry! You didn't come here to watch me mope!
Ah, and look at the time! We should head back to our meeting spot. Wouldn't want to keep everyone else waiting!

You Know... (Part Three)

Clock Town - Clocktower Square
After clashing with the Black Bunnies...

Okay, I'll go register us! You all wait here.
Okay.

Right.

I'll come with, Deuce. I'm worried about ya goin' off on your own.
That's right.I'll come too.

Grim worrying about me is...weird. But sure, safety in numbers I guess.

The Rabbit Run registration booth is right next to the park entrance.
Be careful, you three.

There's the entrance. Now, where's the booth...

Ain't that it?

Oh, yeah... Whoa!
Look at that huge line! There's way more people signing up than I expected...
Well, it's not getting any shorter. Let's find the end and add ourselves to it...
???
Ah, carrot sticks! They're never gonna let us register now...

Huh?
Workshop Worker
I could've sworn I put our rabbit ears in my bag, but they're not here! Where did I leave them...?
Workshop Owner
Wait—is THAT what those headbands on top of the 3D printer at the shop were?
I'd say go and grab 'em, but registration will have ended by the time you get back.
Guess we can't race this year...

Rabbit ears on a 3D printer... Oh! I remember seeing those when I was there with Ortho!
I bet I could summon them with my magic.
I never did get to thank the owner for letting us use his workshop... I should see if he'd accept my help.
Um, excuse me.
Workshop Owner
Huh?...No way-Deuce?!
Whaddaya want this time? Come to cause trouble for my workers too?

No, not at all! I just overheard you talking about your rabbit ears...
I can summon them with magic. Then you'd still be able to register in time!
Workshop Owner
You mean to say you've got talents other than just causin' trouble?

I mean, I'm not great at it. In fact, I screw up most of the time, and probably will this time... But I can give it a shot!

...Brimmin' with confidence.

Sh-shut it! I need to concentrate.
*deep breaths*...
I summon thee, rabbit ear headbands!

These look just like the ones I saw at the workshop. Which must mean...
Congrats!Great job!

I'm so glad it actually worked!
These are the ones, right? Here you go.
Workshop Worker
...

She's frozen up. I think she's scared senseless of ya, Deuce!

Really?! Maybe I shouldn't have stuck my nose into it after all. I'm so sorry...
Workshop Owner
Huh, you actually seem to care about her. And you even did a successful summoning. Can hardly believe it...
FLASHBACK START

Listen, Deuce is really thriving over at Night Raven College!
He even made the podium in a track and field meet. Sent me a picture and everything.
As for his magical studies... Well, he's trying his best, but he's getting there!
He's even asking after me. Worried about how I'm doing, if you can believe it.
And he's made friends too. Seems like he's really having a good time. I couldn't be happier.
FLASHBACK END
Workshop Owner
...Guess Dylla was tellin' the truth.

My mom? What'd she say?
Workshop Owner
Just that you were really were tryin' to turn over a new leaf.

I had no idea...
Workshop Owner
To be honest, I never put much stock in what she had to say about ya...
But I was wrong. Thanks, Deuce. Me and my crew would've had to sit this year out if you hadn't stepped in.

I'm glad I could help. I mean, I owed you for letting us use your workshop.
Workshop Owner
You owe a lotta people a lotta things, the way you used to act.
But we're square for today. Hey, go on and thank the boy!
Workshop Worker
...Thank you. Sorry I froze up back there.

Perfectly understandable considering how I butted in on your conversation.
Workshop Owner
You're enterin' the race too, right? Good luck!

Same to you!
Maybe I really have changed...
Way to go!Glad that worked out!

Thanks. I've been worried this whole time that I'm still the same old Deuce. But I feel a little better now.
You know, all along I'd been planning to take this trip alone.
I'd see Mom, check out the fest, maybe go for a blastcycle ride or two—but then head straight back to school.
If you guys hadn't been here, I'd never have had a chance to actually talk to people like this.
I'm really glad you came.

Heh, helpin' the small folk's what I do best.

I'm gonna win this race... For all of you guys, and for my mom.
With you cheering me on, Yuu, there's no way I can lose!
