Cards are used in battles, can be used in lessons to raise their levels, vignette levels or buddy levels.
Cards have three rarities:

Status[]

On the Status screen, players can see an overall information of the card, such as level or spells.

Every card has its own HP and POW levels. Increasing a card's level will raise these values.
Hit points (HP): card’s health level. The higher the value is, the more damage a character can withstand from attacks in battles and exams.
Power (POW): card’s power level. The higher the value is, the more damage a character can inflict with their attacks in battles and exams.
Cards have three types: Attack, Defense or Balanced.

Tapping on the switch icon allows players to pick a different card. Tapping on the magnifying icon lets people see more details about the card.

Here, tapping on the switch icon allows players to switch between the card illustration and the two character sprites.

On the Spells section, players can view the description and level of the card's two (three for SSRs) spells, as well as which characters give what type of buddy bonuses for the card.

On the Visuals section, players can choose which card illustration should be set as default (if the card has been groovified). Players can also switch the character's outfit for lessons from default wear to the card's outfit.

Card Level[]

A card’s level can be raised by taking history lessons or using the following items (gained from history lessons or purchased in shop):

  • Phial of Blooming Honey: raises a card's level by a small amount
  • Jar of Blooming Honey: raises a card's level by a moderate amount
  • Jug of Blooming Honey: raises a card's level by a big amount

When raising a card's level, there's a chance that the gained experience will be increased by getting Great or Excellent instead of Good which seems to be the default amount.

Vignette Level[]

A card’s vignette level can be raised by taking flight lessons or using the following items (gained from flight lessons):

  • Secret Snack: raises vignette level by a small amount
  • Secret Spread: raises vignette level by a moderate amount
  • Secret Smorgasbord: raises vignette level by a big amount

By raising a card's vignette level, players can unlock vignette chapter(s) of the card.

Friendship Level[]

A feature introduced with the Guest Room. Players can raise a card's friendship level by inviting a character using that specific card to the player's guest room. Raising a card's friendship level gives various rewards and raises that card's max level cap. Maxing out a card's friendship level will raise the card's max cap by 10 additional levels in total.

Spells[]

Spells have a wide range of effects in battle, such as attacking enemies, healing allies, or boosting damage.
Every card has two (three for SSRs) spells that can be enhanced by using upgrade items and thaumarks to gain more powerful effects. Higher levels require more enhancement items and thaumarks. They can be enhanced up to level 10.
Some spells's effects may change after reaching level 5 or level 10.

Items used for enhancement:

Fire Flora Cosmic Water
Red Notepad  Green Notepad  White Notepad  Blue Notepad
Red Textbook  Green Textbook  White Textbook  Blue Textbook
Red Grimoire  Green Grimoire  White Grimoire  Blue Grimoire

Cap Level[]

A card's max level depends on its rarity. The higher the rarity, the higher the max level is.

Rarity Max level Max uncap
R 40 60
SR 60 80
SSR 80 100

Uncap[]

Players can uncap (raise max level) a card by obtaining duplicate cards or by using awakening perfume. One uncap will raise a card's level by five, and uncapping can be performed 4 times in total. Duplicate cards automatically raises a card’s level.
If a card is fully uncapped, obtaining a duplicate of that card will give an awakening perfume of the card’s rarity instead.
As of January 22, 2023, uncapping a card comes with the following bonuses:

All cards have two card illustrations and players can use a specific type of candy on a card that meets the right requirements to change it into the second (groovy) version. Groovy also raises a card's HP and POW levels.
