Chapter 67-32 Book 7 • Chapter 67-33 Chapter 67-34

There's an abandoned village up ahead. We can rest up in the shacks still standing. That'll shelter us from the rain, at least.

An abandoned village? Did the ironclads destroy it?!

Easy there, don't just to conclusions. This was a village for people working in a nearby mine.
But they depleted the whole mountain's mystium deposits, and the mine closed up. So the locals all moved on.

Ah, now I see.

These footprints...

Those are ironclads, all right. They're headed toward the village, and their group is as large as you'd expect.

Ah, they had the same idea. It's a shame they beat us to it, but let's just say they prepared camp for us.
This will be our last job of the day. Come on, louts.
Royal Guardsmen
*fae language*
Battle!

Everything's run-down, but this house is in fairly decent condition. That takes care of our lodgings tonight.

What's this in the side room? A spinning wheel? Did they do domestic work in addition to mining?

Don't go touching things. This used to be a fae household. Anything here could be enspelled.

It's so dusty in here, though. I'll at least do a little dusting.
There's a doll on the floor. An animal...in armor? With a brave-looking face.

Look at this pillar. It's got notches in it to show height and age. The family here must've had a child.

Children sure know how to leave a mess, huh.

Sir Vanrouge... Do you like things neat and orderly?

Nah. I don't own enough things to even leave much clutter.
But I just know that once Maleanor's egg hatches, I'm going to be the one stuck babysitting the kid.
That means I'll have to clean up their messes, right? Just thinking about it tires me out.
I've never liked kids, really. They're obnoxious and selfish, they cry at the drop of a hat...
And what's more, they're so weak. I shudder to imagine having to look after someone who gets worn out at the slightest exertion.

......

Well, maybe something will change your mind on that subject.
Suppose you made a family of your own...

A family? I'm never gonna have a proper household.
If my history's anything to go by...
*sigh* I'm tired. I'm going to sleep now.

Then I'll stand watch. I suggest the rest of you cut the chitchat and wrap things up as well.
*footsteps*

...Sebek, thank you. That was very kind of you.

I need no thanks from you. I simply spoke the truth.
