I see smoke up ahead. Is it a campfire?

The ironclads must be setting up camp.
First they lay out bedding for us, and now they prepare our dinner? What generous hospitality.

General...

Ooh, there's food on the line? Guess I'd better go all-out for this.

That's the spirit. Come on, boys. Time for another job!
*fae language*
Battle!

Your dinner is ready, Baur.

Don't bother giving me any. I don't like anything you people make.

You've already eaten it once, Baur. What difference would eating it again make? Stop acting spoiled.

Spoiled? If anything, General, I believe you're acting too nonchalant here.

Ugh, it's always like this with the people that have "honorable" upbringings... Pride doesn't fill an empty stomach, you know.
*sigh* Lady Maleanor likes to complain about food as well.
When I served her a meal, she nitpicked it...

Was it, ah...a meal that you cooked yourself, Sir Vanrouge?

Me? Cooking? Please, I would never.
What?!

Why so shocked? If you can eat food as-is, any extra time spent preparing it is wasted.
But no, nothing was good enough for Lady Maleanor. She kept griping about how the jerky was too hard, or too salty.
The eventual resolution was Raverne summoning a cauldron or some such and stewing the beef, as I recall.
And of course she fawned over Raverne all the while, making passive-aggressive remarks like, "You're the only one I can depend on."
...Maybe that's where the difference between him and me lies. And here I was the one to actually bring the food.

You offered Lady Maleanor jerky? In what circumstance would that be appropriate?

There was a time she dragged me into her antics, and we all got lost in the woods and had to camp out there.
Raverne, Maleanor, and I were still children at the time. We'd barely begun learning flight magic.
It was a dark, foggy night. Everything around us was a haze. We couldn't even tell which way the castle was from where we were.
Raverne had this miserable look on his face. Even now I can't forget it.
Lady Maleanor, conversely, was perfectly fine. In fact, she seemed to be enjoying the new experience.
I was exhausted after hiking for so long, but I had to stay up until dawn chatting with her since she couldn't sleep...
I'll be subject to her whims for the rest of my life, I'm sure...
......

How did you make it back?

Oh, the commander of the royal guard at the time came to find us as soon as the sun rose.
The whole thing was Maleanor's idea, but I was the one to take all the blame for it...,br>*sigh* Good grief. Nothing good comes of associating with her.
