Battles can appear in story chapters, indicated by its icon. They are turn-based fights where two sides use magic against each other.
A battle team can have 5 members at max, and different cards of the same character can be used in the same team. For the 5th spot, players can choose a support character to help out in battle from guest characters or characters set as favourite of friends and other players. The same card can be used on team twice from the player's own deck and as a support card from another player.
Depending on the chosen cards, buddy bonus effects might be activated as well. Players can check them by tapping on the Buddy Details button in Team Formation.

Battle Gameplay[]

In battles, there are two phases: player turn and enemy turn. On player's turn, players can choose from two spells from their deck and attack. During enemy's turn, the opponent does the same.

Each turn, the team that gets to attack first switches. Attack order determines what info players can see on enemy moves. First strike lets players see the enemy's first move, while Second strike shows the enemy's second move.

By tapping on the arrow, players can see the enemy's spell deck.

On the player's own deck, pink upward arrows mean the spell's element is at advantage, while grey downward arrows mean it's at disadvantage.

Holding tap on a spell will show its level and description.

Turns alternate until one side achieves victory.

In story chapters, players need to meet the victory conditions in order to progress with the story.

Elements[]

There are 4 types of elements in the game:

Water has advantage against Fire, and disadvantage against Flora.
Fire has advantage against Flora, and disadvantage against Water.
Flora has advantage against Water, and disadvantage against Fire.
Cosmic is treated as a neutral element.

Duo Magic[]

SSR cards have access to duo magic when their duo partner is in the same team. Duo magic can be only activated with the right SSR, but the partner character can be any card variant. In battle, spells from the specific characters need to be selected together in order to activate duo magic.

Note that unlocking duo magic requires the SSR card's second spell to be at least level 5.

An icon will indicate which spell has the duo magic. That spell has to be paired together with one of the duo partner's spells together for an attack in order for the duo magic to activate. If the two SSR cards are each other's duo magic partners, both duo magic spells can be chosen together and they will both activate.

Here, the one using Duo Magic is Ace's Dorm Uniform card. His duo partner for this card is Deuce, for whom any of his cards can be used.
When Duo Magic is activated, there's a short cutscene with the card illustrations and an unique exchange between the duo partners.

Battle Types[]

Some battles have turn limits. For example, most battles players will encounter have a 5-turn limit, meaning the battle ends after the 5th turn. The victory conditions for these are either 1) deal more damage (shown on the damage meter) than the enemy within the turn limit, or 2) reduce the enemy's HP to 0 (shown on enemy HP gauge).

In Turn Endurance Battles, the victory conditions are either 1) survive for the turn limit, or 2) reduce enemy HP to 0.

In Unlimited-Turn Battles, the victory condition is to reduce enemy HP to 0.
