I'm not seeing much firewood. |

It seems most of the readily fallen branches were snapped up the first day of camp. |

Oh! In that case, could we just break off a few branches from the trees? Look, these branches are nice and slender. They'd probably burn well! |

I'm afraid green wood is unsuitable for campfires. It has too much water in it. Even if you could get it to burn, it would produce a great deal of smoke. |

Yes. Anyway, if there's no suitable wood in the forest, perhaps we could visit the river we passed on our way to the campgrounds? We might find some driftwood lying around the banks there. |

Surprisingly, no. Rocks strip away its bark as it floats downstream, so it dries out easily. Driftwood that's washed ashore would quickly lose its moisture. It should be perfect for firewood. |

Whew... I've had to do many laborious tasks on this trip, but I've also had some wonderfully unique experiences. I'll have plenty of stories to tell my family the next time I'm home on break. |
