Ramshackle[]
MC[]
Ace is one of the first people to befriend MC, though he initially found MC strange and laughed at them for having no knowledge about the Great Seven. But they soon got into trouble, and were forced to work together (along with Grim and Deuce) to make up for the damage that was caused, as a result it seemed to strengthen their friendship.
When Ace is punished by Riddle for breaking one of the dorm's rules, Ace goes over to Ramshackle Dorm, telling MC that he'll be staying with them.[1] He also offers MC to stay over at Heartslabyul when MC is evicted from Ramshackle Dorm.[2]
And was visibly worried for them, when they messaged him about their situation in Scarabia. And came back to school as soon as possible to check on them along with Deuce.
They're also classmates and often hang out with each other.
During the halloween event, when many students disappear from the campus, Ace is worried about MC and Grim, asking the headmage if he could go and check on them.[3]
In any case Ace may have a closer relationship to the MC than any other character. He has an impressive number of voice lines that reference MC, inviting them out to eat, to visit Heartslabyul, to his birthday party and inviting himself over to Ramshackle Dorm for card games. In a flashblack, he asks MC if they had ever thought about joining the basketball club.
When the MC remains imprisoned in Scarabia, MC contacts Ace and Deuce for help during Book 4 but they are unable to reach the campus in time, having been forced to take public transportation. Something similar happens in Book 6, when when MC gets attacked by Grim. Though in the middle of the night, Ace and Deuce quickly come to MC's aid. Ace later insists on patching up MC's hand and volunteers to join the hunt to find Grim.
Grim[]
Ace's relationship with Grim had a rough start as they got into a fight, using spells that ended up damaging their surroundings. However after being forced to work together, they got on more friendly terms, though they still bicker a lot.
Heartslabyul[]
Riddle Rosehearts[]
They're both from the same homeland, but didn't meet prior to Ace's enrollment at Night Raven College. Their relationship started out bad, as soon after Ace's arrival, he broke a rule which resulted in Riddle sealing his magic away with his signature spell. Because of this, Ace's first impression of Riddle is that he's rule-obssessed and a tyrant.
Unlike many students at Heartslabyul, Ace isn't afraid to oppose or stand up against Riddle. Though at first he tries to make up for breaking a rule by baking chestnut tarts for Riddle with the help of Trey, it backfires when he tries to give them to Riddle, who snaps at him for breaking another rule, as they're not supposed to bring chestnut tarts on unbirthday parties. This sets Ace off as well, believing the rules to be ridiculous and refusing to apologize to Riddle. Instead, at the suggestion of the headmage, he decides to challenge Riddle for his position as housewarden. However, Riddle wins the duel and mocks MC for not having any magical abilities, Ace gets fed up with Riddle and slaps him, calling out his behaviour. This eventually leads to Riddle spiraling out of control and overblotting.
Once defeated, Riddle regains his senses and apologizes to Ace and the others, but Ace doesn't accept his apology. He demands to have another unbirthday party, and that Riddle would be the one who brings tarts, to which Riddle accepts his conditions.
After the events of Book 1, their relationship has improved, but they still get into small disputes.
Deuce Spade[]
They're from the same home country of The Queendom of Roses, but didn't meet each other prior to their enrollment at Night Raven College. At first, Ace didn't get along with Deuce well, often bickering, disagreeing or throwing insults at each other. When they got into trouble after breaking a chandelier that was the school's property, they were forced to work together to fix the problem and find a rare gemstone. Though initially both Ace and Deuce were put off by the idea of working together, after some convincing from MC, it worked out well and the two of them formed a friendship afterwards, but they still bicker with each other.
Aside from often hanging out with each other, they're also classmates and are from the same dorm.
Trey Clover[]
Ace considers Trey to be a big brother figure within their dorm. During the events of Book 1, he called Trey out for being too lenient with Riddle out of a sense of guilt from their past.
Savanaclaw[]
Jack Howl[]
Ace thinks Jack is way too competitive and surprisingly straight-laced, and (along with Deuce and Grim) have poked fun at Jack for not being honest in expressing care for his friends.
Octavinelle[]
Floyd Leech[]
They're both in the Basketball Club, and Ace was originally impressed with Floyd's excellent athletic abilities while observing him in club. He thought it would be advantageous to be on the same team as him, but after playing together, Ace soon realized that his volatile mood makes him a difficult teammate.[4]
Following the events of Book 3, Ace is still a bit intimidated by him due to the week of grueling labor at Mostro Lounge and being stalked and ambushed by the Leeches in the Coral Sea.
Pomefiore[]
Vil Schoenheit[]
At their first encounter, Ace regarded Vil as stuck up and rude, as Vil called him a fresh potato not worth his time.
Rook Hunt[]
Ace sees Rook as an eccentric and freeform senior, who is nonetheless powerful. He also remarks that rather than simply supporting Vil, Rook never disagrees with him.
Epel Felmier[]
Ace mistook Epel for a girl the first time he saw him, but he doesn't like to voice this around Epel as Ace knows the other would get mad. Ace considers him similar to Deuce [5], though it doesn't seem that Ace teases or bickers as much with Epel.
Ignihyde[]
Idia Shroud[]
Ace and Idia are mostly acquaintances. In the events of Phantom Bride, Ace is the first to come to Idia's rescue, albeit circumstantially. After the conflict subsides, Ace feels sorry for what happened to Idia, and attempts to cheer him up by giving him compliments on his formal appearance. Once he hears Idia's panicked reaction, however, he remarks that Idia is only cool "so long as his mouth is shut."
Diasomnia[]
Malleus Draconia[]
Much like the other students in Night Raven College, Ace is cautious of Malleus for his power and reputation. He is, however, not afraid to stand up to Malleus when he needs to, unlike many others that prefer to stay silent and accept the consequences.[6] Malleus, on the other hand, appreciates his honest opinions as it is rare and even his classmates hesitate to talk to him.[7]
Sebek Zigvolt[]
Ace thinks Sebek is a loudmouth and a "fae fanboy".[5] His stubbornness and straightforwardness, often rude, tend to discourage Ace, especially when he starts talking about Malleus.
Because of his terrible aptitude for cooperating and befriending any individual, in Book 7 Lilia asks Ace and Deuce to give him a little boost if they happen to notice that he has been stuck during his stay at the NRC. Sebek's harsh and rude reaction, however, discourages them from some incentive to try to make friends.
Night Raven College Staff[]
Ashton Vargas[]
Ace doesn't show much enthusiasm for Vargas, not liking his personality or his harsh training regime.[8]
